Xuan Set

Xuan is a tea set that draws upon the Taoist concept of the same name and the innate fluidity of natural equilbrium. It references both the image and nature of its Chinese script in the minimalist twisting forms. Designed to imbue a tea experience with flow and tranquility, the full set comprises a gaiwan, a gongdaobei and teacups. Dark blue on white, slipcast ceramic. Dimensions in mm are 105 x 105 x 10 for the gaiwan, 130 x 120 x 140 for the gongdaobei, and 70 x 70 x 40 for the teacup.

The intention for Xuan was to create a form that is both geometric and fluid, thereby imbuing the tea experience with the same deliberate nature, and facilitating its stackable nature. Variations in the Xuan teacups were also made by creating and attaching a separately cast stem and handcarving, to form lily of the valley cups and wineglasses.
